Police say a 22-year-old man was seriously injured when his motorcycle crashed into a van at a high rate of speed in Waukegan Friday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Fire Department responded around 9:50 p.m. Friday to the area of Fulton Avenue and Belvidere Road for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Emergency crews arrived to find a two-vehicle crash involving a white van and a motorcycle in the westbound lanes.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said the driver of the motorcycle was identified as Joseph Flores, 22, of Waukegan.
Flores was driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed, according to witnesses, Chastain said.
The motorcycle collided with the rear of the white van, leaving Flores seriously injured.
Chastain said Flores does not have a valid driver’s license and had no insurance for the motorcycle.
He was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, driving without a valid driver’s license and driving without insurance.
Chastain said that Flores had shallow breathing at the scene and lacerations from the crash.
He was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Belvidere Road was shut down between Fulton Avenue and Glen Rock Avenue due to the incident.
The scene was cleared within approximately an hour.
