A driver was cited after causing a two-vehicle crash that left a car rolled over, trapping two people inside, and sending three people to the hospital near McHenry.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:05 a.m. Thursday to South River Road and Dowell Road in unincorporated McHenry for a vehicle crash with injuries.

A 911 caller initially reported one of the victims was unresponsive and people were trapped in a vehicle.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communication Specialist Emily Baker said deputies learned a black Honda was traveling northbound on River Road.

The Honda, occupied by the driver and sole occupant, entered the roundabout.

A white GMC Terrain, occupied by the driver and a passenger, was traveling westbound on Dowell Road, Baker said.

Baker said the GMC entered the roundabout and did not yield to the Honda.

The two vehicles collided and the GMC rolled over onto its side, trapping both occupants inside.

The two occupants were conscious at the scene and firefighters worked to extricate them from the car.

All three people involved in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Baker said.

The occupants from the GMC were transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

The driver of the Honda was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

Baker said the driver of the GMC was issued citations for failure to yield at an intersection and driving without valid insurance.
