A boil advisory was issued Sunday for residents in Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer and other surrounding areas following a water main break leading to a water tower.

Aqua Illinois, a private water provider, said in a statement Sunday that there was a water main break on a transmission main leading to a water tower, which had impacted the water recharging process in Hawthorn Woods.

Crews have since repaired the water main break.

Water service was not disrupted to customers in Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer and unincorporated Lake County, Aqua said.

A 24-hour water boil advisory was issued as a precautionary measure.

Aqua said they are currently conducting water testing and the advisory will be lifted once samples are confirmed safe.

Customers in the affected areas are advised to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.

Water should be brought to a boil for five minutes and then cooled before use.

“We will provide updates directly to customers regarding the lifting of the Boil Water Advisory through our WaterSmart Alerts,” Aqua Illinois said in the statement.

In July 2023, residents in the same area were under a boil advisory for a week and some residents had no water due to a severe drought in the region and water main breaks.
