Two people were transported to the hospital after a fire broke out in a third-floor unit of an apartment building in Mundelein Monday evening, fire officials said.
Theย Mundelein Fire Department responded around 5:27 p.m. Monday to the Heritage Green Apartments, 60 South Shaddle Avenue in Mundelein.
Fire officials said dispatch initially received an activated fire alarm for the building.
Firefighters arrived on the scene in five minutes and found smoke showing from the third floor of a three-story apartment building.
The response was upgraded to a structure fire at that time, bringing in additional fire crews to the scene from surrounding departments.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire to a single apartment unit on the third floor, fire officials said.
Two residents were treated for smoke inhalation, fire officials said.
One of them was transported from the scene by ambulance to the hospital and the other was transported to the hospital by car. No other injuries were reported.
The Countryside, Libertyville, Grayslake, Long Grove, Wauconda, Round Lake, North Chicago, Lake Zurich and Buffalo Grove fire departments assisted at the scene.
The Deerfield, Gurnee, Lake Villa, Highland Park and Inverness fire departments covered Mundelein fire stations during the incident.
A family in the unit where the fire occurred was displaced. No other residents were displaced.
Fire officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
