Residents escaped without injury and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a fire that broke out at a home in Lake in the Hills, authorities said.
The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department responded around 7:20 p.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of Pine Street in Lake in the Hills for a report of a structure fire.
Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Captain Mike Gruenes said crews arrived on the scene within five minutes.
They found a single-story home with smoke coming from the rear of the house.
Firefighters learned there was an active fire in the wall near the home’s electrical service meter, Gruenes said.
Occupants of the home were alerted by the smoke and working smoke detectors, prompting them to evacuate the residence.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and mitigated the fire within the first few minutes of arriving.
Gruenes said fire crews checked the home for fire extension in all rooms, the attic and the crawl space and confirmed it did not spread.
There were no injuries to any firefighters or residents. No pets were injured either, Gruenes added.
The Algonquin–Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was assisted by the Cary Fire Protection District, Huntley Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
