The president of a tech company, who is from Barrington, has died months after a “freak accident” at a company event in India that also left the company’s CEO dead.

Raju Datla, 54, of Barrington, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Friday evening, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Datla’s death was the result of complications of multiple injuries from a long fall, the medical examiner’s office ruled.

The medical examiner’s office said Datla’s death stemmed from an accident in Ramoji Film City in India in January.

Datla was the president of Vistex, a software company that has 20 global offices, including one in Hoffman Estates, and over 2,000 employees.

According to local news reports, Datla and Vistex’s CEO, 56-year-old Sanjay Shah, were at a corporate event on January 18.

An iron cage contraption carrying Datla and Shah collapsed during a two-day silver jubilee celebration for Vistex.

Datla and Shah were being lowered in the cage while waving at staff as music played, according to news reports.

One of the wires attached to the cage snapped and the two men dropped more than 15 feet, landing on concrete.

The news reports described the incident as a “freak accident.”

Both men were transported to a hospital and Shah died from his injuries while Datla was in serious condition before his death last week.

A funeral visitation was held for Datla at DuPage Funeral Chapel in West Chicago earlier this week.
