A 9-year-old boy was transported to the hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in a neighborhood in Buffalo Grove.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department and Buffalo Grove Police Department responded around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Farrington Drive and Checker Drive for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Firefighters and paramedics arrived to find a child who was down in the roadway.

Buffalo Grove Deputy Police Chief Brian Spolar said the incident occurred in the 900 block of Checker Drive.

Officers learned a 9-year-old boy was riding an electric scooter when he made an abrupt turn.

The scooter turned into the path of an oncoming vehicle, Spolar said.

The driver of the vehicle was nearly able to come to a stop before striking the scooter.

Spolar said the child did not appear to suffer any obvious injury but was transported by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation.

The child on the scooter was determined to be the at-fault party in the crash.
