A man was injured after police say he drove under the influence and caused a rollover crash that resulted in a secondary crash and power disruptions in Gurnee Thursday evening.

The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 11 p.m. Thursday to the area of Washington Street east of Route 45 for a vehicle crash.

Multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle had rolled over and a loss of power was reported in the area, according to Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor.

Officers learned a Subaru Forester was traveling westbound on Washington Street near Kingsport Drive.

Gaylor said the driver, Amilcar Marroquin-Salinas, 30, of Lake Villa, lost control of the vehicle and swerved off of the road.

The Subaru hit a pole, knocking it down, and the vehicle rolled over onto its side into a ditch.

Marroquin-Salinas exited the vehicle by climbing out of the passenger side, Gaylor said.

He suffered minor cuts and bruises and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for further evaluation.

A second vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup truck, was also traveling westbound on Washington Street shortly after the crash occurred.

Gaylor said the Chevrolet crashed after running into the wire that was down across the street from the pole struck by the Subaru.

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the secondary crash.

Marroquin-Salinas was charged with driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
