It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to extinguish a fire that started outside and spread to a house in Barrington Hills, leaving the residents displaced.

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District responded around 4:07 p.m. Saturday to the 0-100 block of Ashbury Lane in Barrington Hills for a report of a structure fire.

Fire crews arrived on the scene to find an active fire on the exterior of the attached garage.

All occupants evacuated prior to the fire department arriving, fire officials said.

 

A unified command post was implemented consisting of representatives from the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District.

The fire was noted to have spread into the house’s attic upon further investigation, fire officials said.

The incident was upgraded to bring additional fire departments to the scene to assist in extinguishing the fire.

Firefighters pulled hose lines and began working to extinguish the fire, which took approximately 30 minutes to get under control.

 

Fire officials said the house was ventilated and firefighters performed overhaul operations to confirm the fire was out.

The residence was deemed uninhabitable due to smoke damage. No injuries were reported.

An initial report indicated a gas grill exploded and caught the home on fire.

Barrington Countryside Fire Chief Scott Motisi said the cause of the fire is still under investigation but the fire did originate from the exterior of the home.

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District was assisted by the Cary, Fox River Grove, Wauconda, East Dundee, Rutland Dundee, Hoffman Estates, Buffalo Grove, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Lake Zurich and Long Grove fire departments.

The Hanover Township Emergency Services and Barrington Hills Police Department also responded.
