The first cannabis dispensary in Illinois with dockside service opened in Fox Lake along the Chain O’Lakes with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

Smokehouse Dispensary quietly opened on Friday and offered its first 100 customers a free “cannagift.”

“The Smokehouse team is excited to open its doors to customers seeking a brand new cannabis shopping experience,” the business said in a statement.

The store hosted a ribbon-cutting event Tuesday morning.

Smokehouse Dispensary is located at 44 South Route 12 in Fox Lake, which is the location of a former restaurant.

The dispensary is the first in Illinois to be located directly on the water.

It is equipped with boat slips and a dedicated boat attendant, allowing nautical-inclined customers to sail up to pick up their cannabis products, the business said.

Customers are also welcome by land and can walk into the store to purchase products from brands like Aeriz, Verano and Ascend.

All customers, whether arriving by land or sea, can expect free branded beach towels and complimentary ice for hot summer days on the lake.

The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The store is also open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Smokehouse Dispensary is the second dispensary in Fox Lake. Aroma Hill opened in April at 1298 South Route 12.

Lake County has over a dozen cannabis dispensaries throughout the county, according to state records.
