Police are investigating after multiple armed suspects approached a woman who was leaving a church in Zion, stole her property and carjacked her at gunpoint.
The Zion Police Department responded around 9:20 p.m. last Wednesday to New Way Faith Tabernacle Church of God In Christ, 2801 30th Street, for a report of an armed vehicular hijacking.
Zion Police Department Lt. Derek Zaloudek said Thursday that the victim was leaving the church when she was approached by three males.
Two of the three male black suspects were armed with handguns.
The offenders demanded the woman’s property and her vehicle, a silver 2022 Nissan Altima, Zaloudek said.
The victim complied and surrendered everything she had. The offenders then fled in the Nissan.
Zaloudek said the Nissan has since been recovered unoccupied but no suspects are in custody yet.
“This is still a very active investigation with several detectives working on it from multiple angles,” Zaloudek said.
