Officers responding to a dispute call found a convicted felon with multiple guns and an “abnormally large” amount of body armor, along with drugs and cash, in Mundelein, prosecutors said.
Deonta R. Hoard, 39, of Mundelein, was charged with four counts of felon in possession of a firearm, four counts of felon in possession of body armor, manufacturing or delivery of cocaine, possession of cocaine and manufacturing or delivery of cannabis.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Colleen McConnell said the Mundelein Police Department responded on July 13 to a call of a domestic dispute.
A woman called 911 to report there had been a physical altercation with her boyfriend, Hoard, at their Mundelein residence.
Officers learned from the woman that Hoard had firearms in the home and described them in detail, McConnell said.
The girlfriend also told officers that Hoard had drugs in the home’s garage and people have stopped by to purchase them.
A search warrant was obtained for the home and officers located 31 grams of cocaine in 60 individual bags, 332 grams of marijuana in 100 baggies, scales and other drug paraphernalia.
There was also material to grow psilocybin mushrooms in the home, McConnell said.
McConnell said three firearms, one of which was stolen from out of state, were found in the home. One of the guns was a fully loaded shotgun.
A tub was found in the garage containing gun parts and ammunition, along with an “abnormally large amount” of body armor, McConnell said. Over $4,100 cash was located in a bedroom.
McConnell said Hoard is a convicted felon and has a lengthy criminal history.
He was on probation at the time out of Cook County for manufacturing or delivery of fentanyl and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Hoard also has a pending drug case out of Indiana.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Hoard pending trial.
Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak granted the petition following a detention hearing.
A public defender for Hoard said none of the items recovered belonged to his client and that the girlfriend had stabbed Hoard three times during the domestic dispute.
Hoard is scheduled to appear in court again on August 14 for a preliminary hearing.
