Firefighters and paramedics in North Chicago were recently reunited with a man and a woman whose lives they saved in separate incidents, officials said.
The North Chicago Fire Department said they recently responded to a 911 call involving a woman experiencing a severe medical emergency.
The woman was initially responsive when the crew first arrived on the scene but quickly became unresponsive and stopped breathing.
Fire department members immediately began performing lifesaving measures that resulted in the patient being resuscitated successfully, fire officials said.
The woman spent a few days in the intensive care unit and was released where she is recovering at home with her children.
“Because of the quick thinking and good decision-making skills of our crews, this family was given second chance,” the fire department said.
Lt. Martinelli, Firefighter Marcotte, Firefighter Sheehan and Firefighter Lopez were credited in the incident.
The woman later showed up to the fire station to thank the first responders.
The fire department said they were also reunited with a second person who recently came into the fire station to thank the medics who saved his life.
The man and his mother encountered a “scary situation” that quickly turned dire and emergency services were needed.
The family immediately called 911 and the fire department, including Firefighter Lou and Firefighter Lopez, assisted in the young man experiencing a positive outcome.
The man’s mother attended a recent city council meeting to express her gratitude before the city council, city employees and the citizens of North Chicago.
“This is why we do what we do. On the front lines to help and protect others,” the fire department said.
