A dozen fire departments responded after a fire broke out in a commercial building in Mundelein before being quickly extinguished Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Mundelein Fire Department responded around 1:38 p.m. Saturday to the 800 block of North Lake Street for a report of a structure fire.
Firefighters were on the scene in under four minutes, according to Mundelein Fire Chief Bill Lark.
The first arriving units found smoke in the area but had a difficult time finding the building where the fire was originating, Lark said.
Firefighters located the building of origin within two minutes and found smoke showing.
They forced entry and began an aggressive attack on the fire, Lark said.
The building, located at 32 Lyndale Street, was a large commercial structure with limited means of access.
Lark said the seat of the fire was found in a locked 16-foot by 20-foot room.
The incident was upgraded through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) to the box alarm level.
The Countryside, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, Grayslake, Round Lake, Lincolnshire, Wauconda, North Chicago, Waukegan, Fox Lake and Barrington fire departments.
The fire was beginning to burn through the ceiling where it started, Lark said.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which prevented it from spreading to the remainder of the building and the adjacent building.
The building was not occupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The Lake Forest, Gurnee, Deerfield and Arlington Heights fire departments covered Mundelein fire stations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Mundelein Fire Department.
