Officials are reminding bike riders to wear their helmets after a 14-year-old boy escaped with only minor injuries in a crash with a vehicle in Buffalo Grove.
The Village of Buffalo Grove said Officer Rob Lawyer recently presented 14-year-old Buffalo Grove resident Artur Cara with a “Saved by the Helmet” award.
The award, led by the Illinois Department of Transportation, recognizes survivors of potentially fatal crashes who were wearing a helmet.
Cara was involved in a collision on May 22 where wearing his bicycle helmet proved to be key to the successful outcome, officials said.
Cara walked away with only minor injuries after the collision, which involved a vehicle.
“Remember to wear your helmet: It could save your life!” village officials said.
The boy received his award last month and is doing well following the incident.
