Terry Pugh, 34, of Chicago.

A Chicago man has been sentenced to seven years in prison after he was found with crack cocaine hidden in his underwear during a traffic stop in McHenry County.

Terry Pugh, 34, of Chicago, pleaded guilty earlier this week to unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, a Class X felony.

He was sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections by McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis.

Pugh and another man were stopped by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force for a traffic violation on June 22, 2022.

Prosecutors said a canine unit was called and alerted deputies to the presence of illegal narcotics in the area where Pugh was sitting.

Pugh was taken into custody after resisting arrest and transported to the McHenry County Jail where he was found to have just over 15 grams of crack cocaine hidden in his underwear, prosecutors said.

The cocaine was divided into 18 small bags in preparation for sale.

The cocaine was estimated to be worth approximately $1,650, prosecutors said. Pugh is a convicted felon with a previous McHenry County conviction from 2015 for a drug case.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick D. Kenneally said following the sentencing that he takes the sale and distribution of illegal drugs seriously as it “has long lasting consequences for our community.”
