A Lake County sheriff’s canine is being recognized for helping track down a suspect who fled from police in Lake Villa and was located hiding near Antioch.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Canine Drako was requested to assist a local police department over the weekend.

A person had fled on foot from a traffic stop.

Canine Drako and his handler Deputy Roxana Stancioiu arrived and started a track, the sheriff’s office said.

The duo located the man hiding behind a vehicle off Route 83 in unincorporated Antioch.

He was arrested and turned over to the local police department, the sheriff’s office said, praising Drako for being a “good boy.”

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said the incident occurred in the 40500 block of North Route 83 around 11:50 p.m. Friday.

The Lake Villa Police Department was the agency that conducted the traffic stop, Covelli said.
