A 31-year-old man has died in the hospital after bystanders rescued him from Woods Creek Lake where he was swimming with a friend in Lake in the Hills Saturday evening.
The Lake in the Hills Police Department and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 5 p.m. Saturday to Woods Creek Lake, 147 Hilltop Drive in Lake in the Hills, for a report of a water rescue.
Lake in the Hills Public Information Officer Amanda Schmitt said a 31-year-old man and his friend were swimming together in the lake near the LaBahn Hain House.
The man appeared at the surface of the water unconscious and not breathing.
The 31-year-old man was pulled from the water by the friend and two fishermen, who were close to the area, Schmitt said.
The friend and two fishermen began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until police officers arrived.
Schmitt said officers took over CPR until the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District arrived at the scene.
The fire department took over CPR, began medical care and transported the man to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.
McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein on Thursday identified the man as Maciej Delikat, 31, of Lake in the Hills.
Rein said his office was notified on Tuesday of Delikat’s death. He had been in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
An autopsy was performed on Delikat on Wednesday and toxicology is pending.
The investigation remains ongoing with the Lake in the Hills Police Department and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
