Authorities say a man was seriously injured and a woman was also injured in a UTV rollover crash that resulted in the driver being arrested in Wauconda Sunday evening.

The Wauconda Fire District and Wauconda Police Department responded around 6:40 p.m. Sunday to the Woodland Mobile Home Park, 410 Barrington Road, for a report of a crash with injuries.

Wauconda Fire District Battalion Chief John Spratt said three people were on a utility task vehicle (UTV) with a dog.

The UTV was traveling too fast and rolled over in the roadway, Spratt said.

The crash happened in the cul-de-sac at the dead end of the mobile home park.

A younger adult male suffered serious injuries and was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center, Spratt said. He suffered a head injury and a broken arm.

A female adult was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Spratt said a second adult male, who was the driver of the UTV, suffered very minor injuries, including scrapes and bruises. He declined transport to the hospital.

The dog who was riding on the UTV was the only one uninjured, Spratt said.

Three ambulances were dispatched to the scene. A Mundelein ambulance covered Wauconda’s fire station during the incident.

Wauconda Police Department Sgt. Heather Cognac said the UTV’s driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

A search warrant for blood and urine was served on him following the incident.

Cognac said the case will be screened with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office for felony charges due to the seriousness of injuries to the male passenger.
