The coroner has released the identity of a man who was killed after he was ejected from his SUV when it left the roadway and rolled over multiple times near Harvard Tuesday morning.
An autopsy performed Wednesday showed that Rigoberto Reynozo, 41, of Harvard, died as a result of blunt force trauma as a result of a vehicle crash, according to McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Harvard Fire Protection District responded around 9:36 a.m. Tuesday to the 9900 block of Lawrence Road in unincorporated Harvard for a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries.
Sheriff’s officials said investigators learned a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on Lawrence Road.
The Jeep exited the roadway to the east into a field.
The Jeep rolled over multiple times while continuing to travel in a southern direction, sheriff’s officials said.
The vehicle eventually came to rest in a standing cornfield.
The driver and sole occupant, later identified as Reynozo, was ejected from the Jeep.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived before paramedics and began performing CPR on Reynozo, who was not breathing, according to Harvard Fire Chief John Kimmel.
Reynozo was pronounced dead at the scene and a medical helicopter that had been placed on standby was canceled.
Sheriff’s officials said Reynozo was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit was called to the scene and Lawrence Road was shut down between Perkins Road and State Line Road for approximately five hours.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
