A man was injured after a large box truck drove off the roadway and crashed into the trees, prompting a two-hour-long road closure on Route 47 near Woodstock.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:55 p.m. Thursday to Route 47 and Lucas Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said the call initially was reported as someone being trapped in the vehicle following the crash, which occurred south of the intersection.
Paramedics arrived within six minutes and found a large box truck that had veered off the roadway into a row of trees.
Both the driver and passenger had managed to free themselves before emergency crews arrived, Vucha said.
An adult male passenger was evaluated on the scene and transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley with minor injuries.
The driver, also an adult male, refused any medical attention, Vucha said.
Vucha said the truck remained upright and was not carrying any hazardous materials. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Route 47 was shut down from Route 176 to Lucas Road for approximately two hours before it was reopened around 6 p.m.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.
