A missing person experiencing a mental health crisis was found safe following a lengthy and extensive search in Highland Park, officials said.

The Highland Park Police Department contacted RED Center dispatch on Wednesday morning seeking assistance in locating a missing person.

The K9/Drone Search and Rescue Strike Team responded quickly to aid in the search of the man, who was believed to be in mental health crisis.

Multiple resources from the SRST responded, including three canine teams, four drone teams, several chiefs and the command trailer with a UTV.

The team responded to the area of Route 22 and Route 41 in Highland Park, which is where the man was last seen.

The SRST requested additional canine resources from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Will County Sheriff’s Office and Naperville Police Department.

“All the resources operated seamlessly together,” the SRST said in a statement, adding that fire departments from West Chicago, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Roselle, Niles and Glenview responded.

It was later learned the missing person had traveled a significant distance from the last seen point.

The man made contact with his family, which resulted in a positive outcome, the SRST said.

The search effort was underway for most of the day before he was located.
