The sheriff says alcohol was a factor after a woman was ejected and seriously injured in a two-vehicle rollover crash that left four others injured near Woodstock Sunday afternoon.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Woodstock Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2:35 p.m. Sunday to Route 47 and Charles Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a vehicle rollover crash with injuries.
Paramedics arrived on the scene within six minutes and found a serious two-vehicle crash on Charles Road just east of Route 47, Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Communication Specialist Alex Vucha said.
Sheriff’s officials said an investigation showed a 2006 Toyota Rav4 was traveling westbound on Charles Road and stopped for traffic at the intersection with Route 47.
A 2022 Honda CR-V, which was also traveling westbound on Charles Road, failed to yield and rear-ended the Toyota, which had four occupants, according to the sheriff’s office.
The 50-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger were transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 16-year-old passenger was transported to Northwestern Medicine in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office said that a 48-year-old woman from Harvard, who was a passenger in the Toyota, suffered life-threatening injuries.
Vucha said the woman had been ejected during the rollover crash. A LifeNet medical helicopter was called to the scene.
The helicopter transported the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was listed in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the Honda, a 33-year-old who was the sole occupant of the car, was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry with non-life-threatening injuries.
“We appreciate the assistance of the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District and the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, who provided an additional ambulance and crew for our incident,” Vucha said.
Charles Road between Route 47 and Raffel Road was shut down for hours Sunday while the sheriff’s office investigated the crash.
The 48-year-old passenger who was ejected from the Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt. All others involved were wearing their seatbelts.
Sheriff’s officials said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
