An active police manhunt is underway for a homicide suspect believed to be armed who fled on foot from a vehicle in Lake Barrington Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators had been tracking a newer-model dark blue Chevrolet pickup truck in connection with a homicide in Chicago that occurred in the past day, according to sources and police radio traffic.
The vehicle had fled from police Tuesday morning in a western Chicago suburb.
A manhunt began around 12:40 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Route 14 and Pepper Road in Barrington.
The Chevrolet was tracked to the area and fled from Barrington police officers.
The Chevrolet was reportedly involved in a crash before it was later located abandoned at Swiss Automation, 1020 West Northwest Highway in Barrington.
The male black suspect, who is in his 30s with a white cutoff t-shirt, fled on foot from the car, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said. He is possibly armed with two guns.
Police canines from numerous agencies have been called in to assist with the search.
The Barrington High School was placed on soft lockdown due to the incident.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert asking people to avoid the area of Pepper Road north of Route 14 to Kelsey Road and call 911 if anyone spots the suspect.
