A shooting prompted a lockdown for businesses and schools as police conducted an investigation and search Tuesday morning in Gurnee, authorities said.
The Gurnee Police Department responded around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Woodlawn Avenue and Pine Grove Avenue for a report of shots fired.
Officers learned the offenders had fled the scene and no injuries were reported, according to Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor.
Nearby businesses and schools were immediately placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Officers secured the area and conducted their investigation, Gaylor said.
Several rounds were discovered at the scene, which prompted the response of a canine unit from the Zion Police Department to assist in tracking the offenders.
The police department declined to release the number of rounds fired.
Investigators are working to recover video evidence and determine where the shots may have been directed at.
Gaylor said preliminary information suggests that a vehicle, possibly a white sedan, may have been involved.
A thorough search was conducted and the offenders and the vehicle were not located, Gaylor said. The lockdowns were lifted around 12 p.m.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and Gurnee Police are working diligently to gather additional information while prioritizing the safety of the community,” Gaylor said.
