A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle while entering the roadway on Route 14 near Harvard, the sheriff’s office said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Harvard Fire Protection District responded around 11:48 p.m. Saturday to the 10700 block of Route 14 in unincorporated Harvard for a crash involving a pedestrian.
A preliminary investigation shows a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling northbound on Route 14 north of Hebron Road.
A 19-year-old Harvard man entered the roadway and was struck by the Nissan, according to the sheriff’s office.
The pedestrian was suspected to be under the influence at the time of the incident.
Sheriff’s officials said the 19-year-old man suffered critical injuries and a Mercyhealth REACT medical helicopter was called.
An ambulance transported the man to a local hospital where the helicopter landed.
The medical helicopter transferred the man to Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside in Rockford for further treatment. He was listed in critical condition.
The driver and passenger of the Nissan were uninjured, sheriff’s officials said.
The crash remains under investigation by McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit.
