The coroner has released the autopsy results and identity of a man who was found dead in a car at a grocery store in Buffalo Grove Saturday afternoon.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department and Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 2:57 p.m. Saturday to Woodman’s Market, 1550 Deerfield Parkway.

Police officials said they received a well-being check call for a vehicle with a person inside and a foul odor emitting from it.

Officers arrived and discovered a man in a blue Chevrolet Equinox parked on the south end of the parking lot.

First responders confirmed the man was dead at the scene and a death investigation was launched.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek on Wednesday identified the man as Danny McCoy, 68, of Skokie.

Preliminary autopsy results show McCoy appeared to have died as a result of natural causes but toxicology results are still pending, Banek said.

Police said they determined there was no threat to the public.

A large fire and police presence was on the scene for over three hours Saturday afternoon into the evening.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office said McCoy was dead in the car for a while, potentially weeks.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Buffalo Grove Police Department and the coroner’s office.
