A woman was rushed to the hospital by helicopter after she suffered critical injuries from an apparent stab wound in Richmond Thursday afternoon.

The Richmond Township Fire Protection District and Richmond Police Department responded around 3:23 p.m. Thursday to the 5900 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Richmond for an ambulance request.

Fire officials said responders arrived in five minutes to find an adult female with a critical traumatic injury.

Emergency radio traffic indicated the woman had suffered a self-inflicted stab wound.

Mercyhealth MD-1 was requested to the scene as crews continued patient care, fire officials said.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was also determined to be needed and responded to the scene.

The helicopter landed at Bennett Park off of Milwaukee Avenue just after 4 p.m.

Fire officials said the helicopter departed approximately 10 minutes later with the woman, who was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, which is a Level 1 trauma center.
