Police have arrested a man who was seriously injured and a woman who was also injured after they were involved in a high-speed motorcycle crash in Gurnee Thursday morning.
The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 8:30 a.m. Thursday to the area of Grand Avenue and Rollins Road in Gurnee for a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said a motorcycle was traveling westbound on Grand Avenue at a high rate of speed.
The driver, 44-year-old Wayne Mikulski, lost control and crashed on the roadway near the intersection.
Mikulski suffered serious head injuries and was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Gaylor said.
The passenger on the motorcycle, 34-year-old Kristin Teeter, suffered scrapes and injuries to her legs and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Officers later learned Mikulski had an active warrant, Gaylor said. He was transported to the Lake County Jail after being released from the hospital.
Teeter also had an active warrant and was transported to the Lake County Jail after being released from the hospital.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) assisted with the investigation.
Westbound Grand Avenue was shut down for several hours while MCAT worked at the scene.
Gaylor said officers discovered that the driver had a modified firearm, possible narcotics and multiple fraudulent identification cards.
The items were seized as evidence and charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation, Gaylor said.
“The Gurnee Police Department continues to investigate the incident, focusing on both the circumstances of the crash and the illegal items found in the driver’s possession,” she added.
