Amani M. Walker, 24, of Gurnee.

Police say a Gurnee man has been charged after he allegedly fired shots at a group of people who had attacked his vehicle following a traffic dispute in Cook County.

The Park Ridge Police Department responded around 5:09 p.m. Monday to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Touhy Avenue and Busse Highway in Park Ridge.

Park Ridge Police Department Executive Officer Tom Gadomski said officers arrived and confirmed a shooting had occurred. All parties involved had left the scene prior to the arrival of police.

A description of the vehicles involved was received and officers located two of the vehicles, a gray Hyundai and a dark-colored Honda, stopped in front of the Niles Police Department with the occupants walking around outside of the vehicles.

Officers conducted an investigation and learned that the shooting was the result of a road rage incident, Gadomski said.

The person who fired the shots fled the scene in a black Jaguar.

The drivers of the Honda and Hyundai were involved in a moving vehicle dispute with the driver of the black Jaguar, Gadomski said.

The black Jaguar rear-ended the Hyundai at one point and all three vehicles came to a stop at the intersection of Touhy Avenue at Busse Highway.

Gadomski said the drivers of the Honda and Hyundai exited their vehicles and approached the black Jaguar.

They proceeded to knock and bang their hands on the Jaguar’s windows, causing the rear window to break.

The driver of the Jaguar, later identified as Amani M. Walker, 24, of Gurnee, displayed a gun and the two other drivers proceeded to run back towards their cars, Gadomski said.

Walker fired three shots toward the two other drivers, striking the Hyundai, Gadomski said. No one was hit by the gunfire.

Walker and the two other involved vehicles then fled from the scene.

Skokie police officers observed the black Jaguar and proceeded to initiate a traffic stop after a radio alert was disseminated about the incident.

Gadomski said Walker did not stop for officers and a short, low-speed pursuit ensued with Walker being taken into custody after it came to an end.

Walker was found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun, Gadomski said. He is legally allowed to carry the gun as he has a Firearm Owner’s Identification card and concealed carry license.

Walker was transported to Park Ridge Police Department where detectives contacted the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and received approval for a felony charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.

Records show Walker was released from the Cook County Jail following a detention hearing.
