A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was flown to the hospital after a crash involving an SUV on Route 31 in Algonquin Friday evening.

The Algonquin Police Department and Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 7:43 p.m. Friday to the area of Route 31 and Oakwood Court in Algonquin for a vehicle crash with injuries.

A 911 caller reported a crash involving an Acura MDX SUV and a motorcycle.

The 911 caller reported the motorcyclist was unconscious, according to fire department radio traffic.

Fire crews reported the collision appeared to be a t-bone-style crash, which occurred in the intersection.

Heavy damage was reported to the motorcycle and the motorcycle rider was down in the roadway when emergency crews arrived.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested to respond. It landed nearby at Mercyhealth Hospital in Crystal Lake.

An ambulance transported the victim to the hospital’s helipad and they were flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The Algonquin Police Department said the serious traffic collision required an extensive investigation.

“We kindly ask for your patience and request that you avoid the area if possible. If you must travel through, please slow down and give our first responders the space they need to work safely,” the department said in an alert Friday evening.

The roadway was shut down during the several-hour-long investigation and reopened just after 11:25 p.m.

The police department has not released further information on the cause of the crash or the motorcyclist’s current condition.
