A 20-year-old woman was flown to the hospital with serious injuries after police say she was driving recklessly and crashed into a tree in a Cary neighborhood.

The Cary Police Department and Cary Fire Protection District responded around 10:15 a.m. Sunday to the area of New Haven Drive and Montclair Drive for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff said the incident involved a single-vehicle crash.

The Nissan sedan, driven by Kelley Randle, 20, of Carpentersville, drove through the t-intersection and struck a tree.

Randle was the driver and sole occupant of the Nissan, Naydenoff said, adding that speed is believed to be a factor.

“We are still investigating the possibility of other factors that may have contributed to the crash,” he said.

Paramedics removed Randle from the vehicle and transported her to the helipad at Mercyhealth Hospital in Crystal Lake.

A LifeNet medical helicopter landed and flew Randle to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

She suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Naydenoff said.

A neighbor who lives nearby said the vehicle was speeding and did not brake to turn.

Officers charged Randle with reckless driving, unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver, disobeying a stop sign and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

She is scheduled to appear in court on September 23.

The crash remains under investigation by the Cary Police Department.
