The bomb squad was called and police are investigating after a package with a suspicious substance was sent to Discover Financial Services in Riverwoods Wednesday.
The Riverwoods Police Department, Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District responded around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday to Discover Financial Services, 2500 Lake Cook Road in Riverwoods.
A 911 caller reported a suspicious package, prompting the fire department to stage in the area while police responded.
Riverwoods Police Chief Bruce Dayno said Thursday that the company received a package with a suspicious substance.
The Waukegan Fire Department Bomb Squad was called to the scene to investigate.
The bomb squad evaluated the situation and found no explosives, Dayno said.
The substance involved is being sent to a lab for analysis.
Dayno said no injuries were reported by the employees who handled the package, which was sent in the mail.
The police chief said the investigation remains ongoing.
