Residents safely escaped a house fire in Tower Lakes that caused around $350,000 in damage Friday morning, fire officials said.
The Wauconda Fire District responded at 6:58 a.m. Friday to the 200 block of West Lake Shore Drive in Tower Lakes for a report of a structure fire.
Crews received a report of a fire in the attic of a residence.
Firefighters arrived in six minutes and found heavy smoke and fire conditions coming from the roof area of the residence, fire officials said.
The residents safely escaped the home.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level, bringing apparatus from fire departments in Lake and McHenry counties.
Water tenders were used because the area does not have fire hydrants.
Crews brought the fire under control at 7:22 a.m., officials said.
Damage is estimated at approximately $350,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fire officials are reminding residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke detectors, which can provide early warning of fire.
The Wauconda Fire District was assisted by the Barrington Countryside, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, McHenry Township, Countryside, Fox Lake, Fox River Grove, Nunda Rural, Grayslake, Greater Round Lake and Richmond Township fire departments.
