Former Palatine Police Chief David Daigle

The former Palatine police chief has been appointed as the new Barrington police chief, marking the second time the village has hired a new police chief this year.

The Village of Barrington announced on Wednesday that David Daigle has been appointed as the new chief of police for the Barrington Police Department.

Daigle previously served as the Palatine police chief and retired from the position in May.

Daigle has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, beginning his career in 1993 with the Palatine Police Department and climbing the ranks until he became the Palatine police chief in 2019.

“During his tenure with the Palatine Police Department, Daigle was instrumental in implementing neighborhood-based policing, which focused on community engagement and citizen satisfaction,” the Village of Barrington said.

“His leadership in establishing policies, procedures, and high ethical standards has left a lasting impact on the department and the community he served,” the Village of Barrington added.

Daigle was a forensic supervisor from 2001 to 2014 for the Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT), which is a multi-jurisdictional investigative task force in the region, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He has also graduated from the FBI National Academy.

“His experience spans multiple areas of law enforcement, including juvenile officer, lead homicide investigator, forensic technician and public information officer, among others,” the Village of Barrington said.

Daigle graduated from Lousiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and has completed other law enforcement programs at the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, the Southwest Law Enforcement Institute and the Delinquency Control Institute at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

In addition to his new position, Daigle’s LinkedIn profile shows he is currently working as a zoning and code compliance officer with the Village of Palatine.

“In my 30 years of law enforcement, I’ve had the honor of working alongside Barrington Police Department officers on many occasions,” Daigle said.

“Their professionalism and dedication have always stood out, earning my deepest respect. I am truly excited about the opportunity to join these remarkable men and women in continuing to deliver exceptional service to the Village of Barrington,” Daigle added.

Daigle’s recent appointment comes amid a high turnover of police chiefs in Barrington this year.

Earlier this month, Barrington’s previous chief – John Burke – was hired by the City of Lake Forest to lead its police department as chief.

Burke, who had only been in his new position at Barrington for a mere four months, was appointed in April as the Barrington police chief after serving as the deputy chief since August 2016.

At the time, Burke succeeded long-time Barrington police chief David Dorn, who moved to become the Elk Grove Village police chief.

“Chief Burke’s tenure has made a lasting impact on both our community and the Police Department, and we appreciate his contributions,” the Village of Barrington said.

Barrington village officials reacted positively to Daigle’s new appointment.

“We are excited to welcome David Daigle as Barrington’s next Chief of Police,” Barrington Village President Karen Darch said.

“With his extensive experience and strong commitment to public service and community-oriented policing, Chief Daigle is the perfect choice to lead our Police Department. I have full confidence that he will maintain the high standards of safety and service our residents expect,” Darch added.

Barrington Village Manager Scott Anderson said that Daigle’s “remarkable track record in fostering future leaders within an organization speaks volumes.”

“I am confident that Chief Daigle will not only uphold but also enhance the culture of service excellence that defines the Barrington Police Department,” Anderson said.

Daigle will be sworn in at the Barrington Board of Trustees meeting on September 9.
