Faustino Diaz, 26, of Round Lake Beach.

A Round Lake Beach man was arrested after a woman was stabbed with a steak knife, leaving her seriously injured after the knife plunged all the way through her arm in Round Lake Beach.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Vukovich said the Round Lake Beach Police Department was notified around 11:40 p.m. on August 11 about a stabbing victim at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Staff reported a woman was in the emergency room for a serious stab wound that required surgery.

Vukovich said a five-inch steak knife was plunged into the woman’s tricep area, went through her arm and stuck in her chest.

The knife remained inside of her and was recovered. The woman initially told police she was at the lakefront when she was stabbed and drove herself to the hospital, Vukovich said.

Officers went to the victim’s residence and found blood in a bathroom.

They spoke to a child of the victim who said his mother and her boyfriend, Faustino Diaz, 26, of Round Lake Beach, had “gotten into it,” Vukovich said.

Diaz told officers he was sleeping off being drunk when his girlfriend woke him to report she had been stabbed and he drove her to the hospital.

Surveillance video showed Diaz dropping off the victim at the hospital and leaving.

Diaz was charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, domestic battery enhanced, obstructing a peace officer and driving on a revoked license.

Diaz was arrested the same day of the incident and transported to the Lake County Jail. A detention hearing was delayed until August 20.

Vukovich said Diaz has a long history of domestic violence with the victim. He is currently on felony probation for a domestic battery case that he pleaded guilty to in July.

At the time that offense occurred, Diaz was also on probation for a separate domestic battery case in 2022 with the same victim.

During the detention hearing, Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak granted a petition to detain Diaz pending trial, calling the man “inherently dangerous” and a real and present threat to the female victim.

Diaz is scheduled to appear in court again on September 17 for a preliminary hearing.
