Police announced they have made a bust of over $1 million worth of drugs after a man was seriously wounded in a targeted shooting in North Chicago.
The North Chicago Police Department and North Chicago Fire Department responded around 3:30 p.m. Friday to the 1400 block of Kristan Avenue in North Chicago for a report of a shooting.
The girlfriend of a 42-year-old North Chicago man called 911 to report her boyfriend had been shot, according to North Chicago Police Department Management Analyst Freddrick Diez.
Officers found the man suffering from two gunshot wounds, one to his head and one to his stomach.
Diez said Paramedics transported him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of his serious injuries.
His condition was stabilized and he remains hospitalized as of Wednesday.
The North Chicago Police Department Special Investigations Unit responded to investigate.
Officers obtained a search warrant for a residence where the shooting occurred in the 1400 block of Kristan Avenue.
During their search, Diez said they discovered 150 pounds of psilocybin, 308 pounds of cannabis and 595 pounds of liquid distillate stored in THC cartridges.
The total estimated street value was over $1 million.
“The immediate actions of the responding officers impacted the outcome of the victim and investigation,” North Chicago Police Chief Lazaro Perez said.
The incident appears to have been an isolated and targeted attack and the investigation remains ongoing with charges pending, Diez said.
