Wranglers successfully caught an escaped bull that was on the loose in McHenry County Thursday evening, with the animal hiding in cornfields to elude capture.
The incident began around 4 p.m. Thursday after the bull escaped from a property in the 7300 block of South Union Road on the border of Marengo and Union.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert about the situation.
The alert warned motorists around 4:30 p.m. that the bull was in the area of Route 20 and South Union Road off of the roadway in the vegetation.
McHenry County Animal Control also responded to the area but left after reporting they were not able to do anything to capture it.
A wrangler on a horse successfully used a lasso to catch the bull on a property in the 7600 block of South Union Road.
The animal was able to run away from the wrangler and break the rope.
The bull continued roaming around and eventually was seen walking into a cornfield to elude its captors.
Around 6:45 p.m., at least six wranglers were able to surround the bull and lasso it after it exited the cornfield.
They successfully guided the animal back to its home nearby but not before the bull stopped and laid down on the side of the road midway through.
It is unclear yet whether the sheriff’s office will cite the owner of the bull for the incident.
