Seven people, some of which were reported to be children, were transported to hospitals after being injured in a four-vehicle crash on Route 176 in Island Lake.

The Wauconda Fire District and Island Lake Police Department responded around 6:30 p.m. Thursday to Route 176 and Greenleaf Avenue in Island Lake for a report of a multiple-vehicle crash with injuries.

Island Lake Police Chief Jennifer Paulus said four vehicles were involved in the crash.

Eight people occupied the cars and seven of them required transport to area hospitals, Paulus said.

Fire officials said five ambulances were dispatched to the scene, which occurred just west of Converse Park.

Those included two ambulances from Wauconda along with ambulances from Fox Lake, Nunda Rural and Lake Zurich fire departments.

Fire officials said all of the injured people were believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

According to fire department radio traffic, at least two of the seven people transported to the hospital were juveniles.

Paulus said further information on the incident was not immediately available as the police reports were not finalized yet.
