An injured woman had to be extricated from her car after it collided with a government vehicle and rolled over, landing on top of another SUV, in McHenry Friday morning.

The McHenry Police Department, McHenry Township Fire Protection District and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District responded around 9:45 a.m. Friday to the intersection of Route 31 and Blake Boulevard for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.

McHenry Deputy Police Chief Thomas Walsh said a 2022 Subaru Outback was traveling southbound on Route 31, also known as Richmond Road, at the intersection of Blake Blvd.

The Subaru was involved in a collision in the intersection with a 2013 Ford F-250, which is a McHenry Township Road District vehicle.

The Ford had been traveling eastbound on Blake Boulevard and was attempting to make a left turn to travel northbound on Route 31, Walsh said.

The collision caused the Subaru to collide with a 2023 Tesla Y3, which was stopped facing northbound on Route 31 at Blake Boulevard.

Walsh said witnesses reported the Subaru rolled over after the initial crash with the Ford and landed on top of the Tesla.

McHenry Township Fire Protection District Battalion Chief David Harwood said the driver of the Subaru was trapped inside and firefighters had to extricate her from the vehicle.

Harwood said the Subaru was in a precarious position that required firefighters to stabilize it first before extricating her. The entire process took approximately 10-15 minutes.

She was transported by ambulance to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Walsh said.

The drivers of the two other vehicles involved reported minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.

All drivers were sole occupants of their vehicles, Harwood said.

Walsh said the driver of the Subaru, identified as Elizabeth Lopez Alvidrez, 41, of McHenry, was issued a citation for disobeying a traffic control device.

Harwood said southbound Route 31 was shut down and traffic diverted to Blake Boulevard for approximately 30 minutes. Northbound Route 31 was only temporarily closed for a moment while the tow trucks arrived.

The Spring Grove and Fox Lake fire departments covered McHenry fire stations during the incident.
