UPDATE: The horse’s owner has been located.

The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in locating the owner of a horse that was found wandering around on Route 173 near Harvard.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:10 a.m. Saturday to the area of Route 173 and Reese Road in unincorporated Harvard for a loose animal call.

A person spotted a horse in the road near the curve in the roadway.

Deputies arrived and reported locating the white horse at Route 173 and Crowley Road.

The deputies reported the Palomino Mare horse was friendly and grazing on grass.

The McHenry County Animal Control was notified and deputies began searching for the horse’s owner in the area without results.

Deputies reported a woman from a horse farm in the area took the horse temporarily until its owner could be found.

The sheriff’s office issued an alert around 3:15 a.m. asking anyone who might have lost a horse to contact them at 815-338-2144.

On Thursday, a bull escaped from a property in Union and eluded capture for nearly three hours as it roamed around.
