Three children were evaluated for injuries after a car crashed into the rear of a stopped school bus that was dropping off a student in Gages Lake, the sheriff said.
The Gurnee Fire Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:30 p.m. Friday to the area of Route 45 and Gages Lake Road in Gages Lake for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said a school bus was traveling eastbound on Gages Lake Road just east of Route 45.
The school bus stopped to unload one of the students on board at Gages Lake Road and Lake Road.
A 2011 Honda Accord, driven by a 22-year-old Third Lake man, was also traveling eastbound on Gages Lake Road behind the bus.
Covelli said the Honda struck the rear of the school bus at a slow speed.
The Woodland School District 50 bus was occupied by 17 middle school students.
Three of the students struck their heads when the crash occurred, Covelli said.
They were evaluated by paramedics but did not require transport to the hospital.
There were no other injuries reported. The driver of the Honda admitted fault for the crash.
