A Lake County sheriff’s canine tracked down an endangered missing person found near the state border amid an active search by emergency crews from Lake County and Kenosha County.

The Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin Police Department announced just before 10 p.m. Sunday they were searching for a 59-year-old man.

The man was last seen a few hours prior in the 12100 block of 43rd Avenue in Pleasant Prairie.

Police released a photo of the man to the public and asked for assistance in locating him.

Officers also began checking areas he frequented in the past.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Winthrop Harbor Police Department, Illinois State Police and Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue responded to aid in the search effort.

The search was reported to be in the area of Interstate 94 at the Illinois-Wisconsin border.

A canine and drone were also called in and utilized in the search, which led to crews locating the missing man around 10:30 p.m.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Canine Loki and Deputy Kevin Lowe tracked from the last seen point through a farm field and into a heavily wooded area near a drainage ditch.

Loki found the man stuck in the woods, the sheriff’s office said.

He was evaluated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital.

“We want to express our deepest thank you to all the first responders that assisted in our search & locating of [the man]. Had it not been for the assistance of both K9 & Drone, it is unknown how long it would have been until he was located,” the Pleasant Prairie Police Department said.
