The sheriff is investigating after a large number of vases were stolen from headstones at a cemetery near Woodstock last week.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 3:20 p.m. on September 3 to the McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, 11301 Route 14 in unincorporated Woodstock, for a theft call.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communication Specialist Emily Baker said a large number of vases, which were part of gravestones, had been stolen.

One of the administrators informed deputies that the vases had been stolen the previous night in the south end of the memorial park, Baker said.

Baker said the sheriff’s office would not disclose the exact number of vases that had been stolen.

The sheriff’s office was again called to the cemetery around 8:45 a.m. Saturday after a family noticed their loved one’s vase had been stolen.
