A woman was transported to the hospital after she crashed her SUV into an office building that was under renovation in Gurnee Wednesday morning.
The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday to the 5400 block of Grand Avenue in Gurnee for a report of a car into the building crash.
Fire crews arrived on the scene and found a small SUV that crashed through the side of the building located on the southeast corner of Grand Avenue and Spruce Street.
Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Heraver said officers were already on the scene and the adult female driver of the car was out of the vehicle, which was partially inside one of the office areas of the building.
The woman was the sole occupant of the car, which sustained significant damage.
She was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with minor injuries, Heraver said.
The building was under remodeling to become a medical office at the time of the incident.
Heraver said a contractor working on the renovation was inside when the collision occurred and was uninjured.
Firefighters shut off the gas and electricity to the building and began evaluating the structure to ensure its stability.
The Gurnee Building Department and a tow truck responded to the scene, Heraver said.
Firefighters stood by while the tow truck pulled the vehicle out to ensure the building remained structurally sound.
The cause of the crash was being investigated by the Gurnee Police Department.
