No injuries were reported after 10 fire departments were called to a fire that broke out in an office building in Grayslake Wednesday evening, authorities said.
The Grayslake Fire Protection District responded around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday to 70 Route 45 in Grayslake for a report of a structure fire.
Fire crews found light smoke showing from a single-story commercial building, according to Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ian Mandigo.
The fire engine crew to arrive began an offensive attack to extinguish the fire.
Mandigo said crews located the fire and were able to quickly extinguish it. The fire occurred in the office building attached to the Lake County Farm Bureau.
The fire was contained to a single office in the center of the building.
The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level to bring additional fire departments to the scene.
Extensive ventilation was required due to the large amount of smoke inside and the size of the building, Mandigo said.
The building did not have a fire alarm or sprinkler system. There were no injuries reported.
Mandigo said employees who noticed smoke called 911, which prevented a larger loss of property.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Grayslake Fire Protection District was assisted at the scene by the Round Lake, Gumee, Fox Lake, Antioch, Beach Park, Countryside, Great Lakes, Lake Villa and Mundelein fire departments.
