A man and a woman were hospitalized after they were injured when a boat crashed head-on into a seawall on the Fox River near Cary Thursday afternoon.

The Cary Fire Protection District, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois Department of Natural Resources Police responded around 12:38 p.m. Thursday to the 2300 block of Grove Lane in Cary for a report of a boat crash.

Cary Fire Chief Brad Delatorre said paramedics found a motorboat that had collided with a seawall behind a residence.

Delatorre said the boat was occupied by two people, who were already on the shore.

The two occupants, a man and a woman, were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with minor injuries, Delatorre said.

A contractor who was working next door building a seawall when the incident occurred said the boat, a white bowrider, struck the seawall head-on.

The man said the woman was operating the boat and her boyfriend was the passenger.

The woman lost control of the boat and it made a sharp right turn into the seawall, the contractor said.

The contractor said he and others went into the water to bring the boat to shore so paramedics could remove the two from the boat.

The woman appeared to have suffered a neck or back injury and the man appeared to have suffered a foot and face injury.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources were investigating the crash.
