A Waukegan man was arrested after he led police in Wisconsin on a brief chase and crossed the state border before fleeing from his car at a gas station in Zion.

The Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin Police Department said one of their third shift officers was driving on Sheridan Road near 104th Street around 3:35 a.m. on September 5.

The officer narrowly avoided a rear-end collision by a reckless driver.

An attempted traffic stop was conducted but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop, police officials said.

A pursuit ensued but was terminated by the officer as the vehicle entered into Illinois from Wisconsin.

The officer relayed the vehicle information to surrounding police agencies.

Officers from the Zion Police Department were in the immediate area and located the vehicle almost instantly, police officials said.

Officers followed the vehicle, which pulled up to a gas pump at the 7-Eleven at Sheridan Road and Barnhart Court in Zion.
