A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after a pickup truck went airborne, struck trees and rolled over on Route 41 in Wadsworth Sunday morning, the sheriff said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Newport Fire Protection District responded around 4:15 a.m. Sunday to the area of Route 41 and Kelly Road in Wadsworth for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a single-vehicle crash involving a Dodge Ram 1500, which sustained serious damage, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli.

A preliminary investigation shows the Dodge, driven by a 19-year-old Kenosha, Wisconsin man, was traveling northbound on Route 41 approaching Kelly Road.

The driver said he was looking at his GPS and failed to properly negotiate a curve in the roadway, Covelli said.

The Dodge left the roadway and struck a light pole before driving into a ditch.

Covelli said the vehicle went airborne, struck two trees and landed on its driver’s side.

The driver and a passenger in the vehicle, a 19-year-old Kenosha, Wisconsin man, were both trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters extricated the two men and both were transported to an area hospital.

The passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, Covelli said.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

The cash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
