A 60-year-old man is in critical condition after he was found unresponsive when he crashed his motorcycle into a ditch near Huntley early Sunday morning, the sheriff said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 12:29 a.m. Sunday to the area of Marengo Road east of Seeman Road in Coral Township, west of Huntley, for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find a serious motorcycle crash in the 14700 block of Marengo Road.
A preliminary investigation shows that a 1993 Harley Davidson Cruiser was traveling westbound on Marengo Road, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
The motorcycle exited the roadway to the left and traveled in the ditch for a significant distance.
The driver, a 60-year-old Marengo man, was located in the ditch with the motorcycle partially on top of him, the sheriff’s office said.
Fire department radio traffic indicated the man was unconscious and not breathing and CPR was in progress.
An ambulance rushed the man to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in Huntley.
Sheriff’s officials said a LifeNet medical helicopter was called and landed at the hospital before transferring the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The sheriff’s office said the 60-year-old man is listed in critical condition in the hospital.
The driver was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver was the sole occupant of his motorcycle and no other vehicles were reported to be involved.
Deputies shut down Marengo Road between Seeman Road and Church Road for several hours until around 6:20 a.m. Sunday.
The investigation remains ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit.
